Joe Severns spent his formative years in a split between Baltimore, Maryland and Mt. Savage, Maryland in the Appalachian Mountains, where his father taught him to drive the family Chrysler.  A encyclopedia of automotive knowledge from the time he was 7, Joe bored family and friends with specs and technical data from most every car ever made.  He began his automotive journalism career as a mechanic’s apprentice and parts flunkey.  A hobby racer, he broke more parts experimenting than his wallet could handle.

Brought up with a passion for American iron, he has graduated into the collector car field, and now fancies English, German, and Italian marques as well, much to his late father’s chagrin.

An editor and automotive freelance journalist by trade, Joe resides in Valdosta, Georgia with his wife Jeanne.  He earned his Bachelors of Fine Arts degree in communications from Valdosta State University.

His first car was a 1978 Chrysler Cordoba, and he has owned an eclectic mix, ranging from a brace of Jeep wagons, to a Mercedes E class, a VW Passat, A Volvo Cross Country XC Turbo, and more Thunderbirds than any man has a right to.  Joe is now searching for the perfect vintage BMW to add to his garage, and hopes that his wife will one day understand his passion for everything automotive.

Joe also writes short stories and essays based on everything from love, to death, terrorism, and party politics.  His work has been read in The Boston Globe, The Baltimore Sun, The Washington Post, Valdosta Magazine, Allegany Magazine, Thomasville Magazine, The South Georgia Media Group (Newspapers including the Valdosta Daily Times and the Tifton Gazette, among others, as well as Inc. Magazine.  His automotive machinations fill Hemmings' Motor News and its journals, Sports Car Market Magazine, Primedia Magazines, Corvette Magazine, and many, many others.
